Inspiration February 6, 2019 Back for more inspiration How to Style Your Living Room Everyone’s taste is unique to them, from how they dress to the way they choose to style their living room. However, there are some general rules and tips that should be followed when styling your living room, to help you get the most out of your home styling. Accents and Accessories Symmetry is always seen as a desirable feature when styling a room, but this isn’t always the case. This can make your home look ordered and constructed, instead of lived in and homely. Play around with the accessories in your home; instead of having them uniform and regimented, have fun with layering ornaments and differing colour schemes, to see how they alter the dynamic of a room. Size Does Matter Make sure that you consider the size of your room, and the furniture you wish to include in it. Larger rooms may require oversized furniture, instead of filling them with various items of furniture. Adding too many pieces can sometimes make rooms feel overcrowded and cluttered. Using more delicate features, details and accessories can also help create more of an elegant feel, if you have decided to opt for oversized furniture. For smaller, more confined spaces, it’s best to think about purchasing more compact pieces of furniture. Two-seater sofas will make better use of the space you have, creating the illusion of having a bigger room. Accompanying your new compact G Plan sofa with a matching armchair will complete your suite, and in turn, not overpower your living space, causing it to look smaller. Feeling Ruggish Rugs are great for bringing a room together. However, the position and size of a rug can really make a difference in the overall aesthetic of your living room. If it is too small, it may give an incohesive feel, looking a little like it’s at a loose end. Buying the biggest rug you can for your space will bring everything together, but it’s also worth considering the shape. Curved rugs will allow a softer, more relaxed feel, whilst rectangular rugs can be better statement pieces, especially if they are a patterned fabric. It’s also worth considering how you’d like to position your rug. Halfway under your sofa, or fully under a coffee table will make a massive difference to how your room looks and feels. Picture Perfect Artwork is a nice feature and can really bring a room to life. Creating a gallery wall, or including paintings and photographs in various positions, will help to add colour and character to a living room. Even though a more traditional aesthetic, hung photos and artwork shouldn’t be placed in the centre of a wall. Instead, they should be used to create a statement, positioned in multiple locations in an unsymmetrical way; this can either be hung on a wall or placed on shelving. Placed above side tables will add depth, drawing the eye to that area of your living space. Styling is different for everyone but following these tips can help you to make the most out of your living space and create a stylish space for you to relax in.
