Choosing the Perfect Pet-Friendly Fabric for Your Sofa

Our homes are designed to be lived in by all family members – including four-legged friends. More often than not, our pets end up ruling the roost, whether we like it or not! That’s why it’s important to consider furniture materials and fabric choices when furnishing our homes; it’s worth investing in more durable pieces that will withstand the love, affection and scratches of our fur babies.

Here at G Plan, we have taken this into consideration. Approximately 57% of households in the UK own at least one pet, meaning millions of cats, dogs, guinea pigs and hamsters across the nation also need a cosy spot to curl up in! We have a wide range of pet-friendly fabrics that suit the needs of any type of family life, so if you’re looking to upgrade your G Plan sofa suite, it’s definitely worth considering the type of upholstery that would best suit your pampered pooch or fussed-over feline.

Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions we get about our worry-free fabrics…

What style of pet-friendly fabric does G Plan offer?

Our range of Aquaclean Fabrics are ideal for homes that include pets. They are incredibly robust and easy to clean, meaning you don’t need to worry if accidental muddy-paw prints do appear on your sofa upholstery.

We offer a selection of plain and patterned Aquaclean Fabrics, allowing you to customise your G Plan furniture to perfectly suit your home’s décor. This special selection of fabrics is coated with a revolutionary stain-release technology. A protective treatment has been incorporated into every fibre of our easy-care fabrics, meaning an invisible molecular layer acts as a cleaning facilitator. Everyday household stains and accidental gifts left by our pets can easily be cleaned away by simply using water!

Our Aquaclean stain-resistant fabric collection is crafted with beautiful colour palettes and soothing textures; each offers a slightly different aesthetic, but all are perfect for pet-friendly sofa upholstery. If you’re searching for a fabric that is a little more plush, take a look at our velvet like Fabrics: soft to touch and easy on the eye, you and your tail-wagger will spend endless hours of sublime comfort curled up on this gentle fabric.

Our collection of easy-maintenance fabrics are available in a wonderful range of colours; from dark forest greens to natural beiges and dazzling oranges, you’re bound to find your favourite sofa fabric within our Aquaclean range. Have a browse for yourself and order a selection of stain-resistant fabrics to flick through at home.

Can you remove muddy paw prints from G Plan’s pet-friendly fabrics?

Of course you can! We understand that all kinds of living happens on your sofa. Let’s set the scene – you arrive back home from a lovely refreshing walk, you open the front door and your muddy pooch rushes in ahead of you – oh no! They reach the sofa and jump on it before you can clean off their mucky paws. But fear not, you’ve recently updated your sofa suite to a G Plan range that includes pet-friendly fabrics. Here’s how you can clean those muddy prints off your Aquaclean sofa upholstery in no time at all:

Step 1: Remove the muddy paw print culprit from your sofa and give them a hose down.

Step 2: Wipe away any excess mud or dirt from your sofa upholstery using a tea towel or kitchen roll.

Step 3: Apply water to the muddy area, pouring it directly onto the upholstery or by using a damp cloth and wait a few seconds.

Step 4: Apply some pressure with a damp cloth and gently rub the fabric in small circular motions. If the stain doesn’t come out straight away, don’t worry! Just repeat the first few steps until it has completely disappeared. Hopefully by this time, the original offender is nice and clean, so no more muddy paw prints will appear!

Can you remove pet hair and fur from sofa upholstery?

Absolutely – this can easily be done by vacuuming the entire surface of your G Plan sofa with a brush fitting on your vacuum cleaner. We recommend you do this regularly so that your sofa suite looks fantastically new for a long period of time. Are leather sofas pet-friendly?

As much as G Plan leather sofas are incredibly supple and comfortable to sink into, we recommend that leather sofa upholstery is saved for human sitting only. Although it is an extremely durable material, leather will easily show claw marks, and we wouldn’t want any unprecedented scratches to ruin your brand-new sofa.

That being said, if you’re looking for a leather sofa that furry friends aren’t allowed onto, why not order a pre-selected swatch pack of our most popular leathers? Our Cambridge leather collection also comes with the option of Contrast Stitching on select G Plan models, meaning you can style it to meet your design needs.
