5 Ways to Brighten Up Your Home this Spring

Spring is finally here – Hooray! This means it’s only 93 days until summer graces us with its presence once again. However, before we start to retrieve the factor 50 suncream from the back of the bathroom cupboard and banish multiple layers of cosiness for another year, we must first welcome the freshness of springtime into our homes.

The 20th of March marks the first day of spring and International Day of Happiness – A coincidence? We think not! As we brace ourselves for the incoming hay fever season ahead, we can turn our homes into bright and happy sanctuaries that reflect the joyful changes taking place in nature. It’s time to throw open the windows, let in the light breeze and give your home that all-important annual spring clean.

So, without further ado, here are 5 ways to brighten up your home this spring…

  1. Blooming Botanical Fabrics

Spring is of course full of beautiful blooms and soft, pastel palettes. We’ve been inspired by these organic influences and have had a browse through our floral accent fabrics; here is a selection that are inspiring us this springtime:

These flowery colours and patterns will fill your home with touches of delicate spring bouquets, whilst allowing a chic and timeless aesthetic that won’t look out of place throughout the changing seasons. 1. Stylish Scallop Details

There’s no better feeling than going for a fresh seaside walk during springtime; we are taking some artistic license from gorgeous, scalloped shells that can be found on the beach. Scalloped edge details are incredibly trendy at the moment and will add a bounty of whimsical character to any living space.

To add a pop of playful colour into the mix, we suggest the Lacquer Scalloped Tray from Not Another Bill. Available in a trio of vibrant colours, this handy tray will add jolly sophistication to your home. Serve guests snacks in style or place this well-glossed tray on a sideboard as a piece of jovial decoration. However you choose to style this lacquered platter, we are sure it’ll bring you no end of joy.

If you are looking for something a little more grown-up, but still includes a stylish scalloped shape, we recommend having a look at the Scallop Rattan Shade from Marks and Spencer. A neutral lamp shape that is a lovely organic shape, this petal-like lighting fixture will add a dainty and graceful air to your home, perfectly reflecting the atmosphere of the springy season ahead. We also came across these White Rattan Scallop Edge Bowls from Layered Lounge; they beautifully compliment the boho charm of the Scallop Lamp Shade, meaning your living spaces can be filled with matching biophilic soft curves.

  1. Fascinating Floral Displays

As it’s International Day of Happiness Today, why not treat yourself to some flowers? This may seem a little quirky, but we think it works amazingly – add a citrus flair to your spring floral displays by including lemons, limes and grapefruit within vases! This can include whole fruits or sliced segments, depending on which you find more aesthetically pleasing.

All you need to create these fascinating bunches of flowers is 2 clear glass vases (with one being smaller than the other so that they can fit inside each other), a selection of citrus fruits and your choice of spring-inspired bouquet. Fill the smaller glass vase with water and place it inside the larger vase; place your chosen fruits – whole or sliced – within the gap between the 2 vases, creating a simple and elegant citrus arrangement. Prune your flowers and pop them in the pre-filled water vase to create this citrusy setup. Don’t you think it looks extremely effective?

If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you could even try this method with carrots around Easter time!

  1. Treat Yourself to a Textured Rug

Another way to brighten up your home this spring is by refreshing your floor coverings. Invite a soft textured rug into your home to add a piece of eye-catching decoration, whilst offering a cosy place to rest your feet. Winter may now be behind us, but cold spells may still ensue during springtime; that’s why a warming rug is the perfect addition to any living space.

We are a big fan of soft pile rugs, such as this Shaggy Rug in Timbo Cream from Benuta. This neutrally-coloured fluffy rug will give you the air of walking on clouds – perfect for lazy days spent at home in serene relaxation! Whether you’re looking for a soft landing when you get out of bed in the morning or a feathery place to rest your feet while watching TV, a textured rug will work wonderfully anywhere in your home.

  1. Social Seating Situations

Spring is a great time to welcome guests over, especially after refreshing your décor! Of course, you’ll need some excellent social seating situations, so that all your guests have a comfortable place to relax and unwind.

If you have a larger living room, a G Plan Corner Sofa would work perfectly – The Sixty Eight can be configured to your liking and includes the ability to elevate your comfort even further with Power Footrest options. The mid-century modern Sixty Eight Sofa range also includes a cosy Armchair and a comfortable Footstool, making for a more-the-merrier seating setup. If your guests’ phone batteries end up running low, they can easily plug them into the integrated USB charging points that are included in The Sixty Eight’s power units – this will most definitely make you the hostess with the mostest!
