The Perfect Sofa Activities for Your Summer Staycation

We’re over halfway through summer 2023. In true British fashion, the summer weather has been truly unpredictable – Torrential rain when you’ve planned a beach visit and glorious sunshine when you don’t really want to leave the house.

Despite this, there’s nothing better than a chilled and relaxing Staycation. A holiday at home is sometimes the best thing to refresh yourself for the last half of the year. We rarely spend well needed downtime in our homes and the summer can be the best time to do this.

Here at G Plan, we are great advocates of a classic Staycation. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of excellent Staycation activities that you don’t even need to leave the house for; they can easily be done from the comfort of your sofa. After all, you don’t need to break the bank to have a brilliant time. These activities are great to do with the kids before they go back to school, or even by yourself.

Construct a Pillow Fort

A classic pastime, creating pillow forts will never get old. A great activity to do at home, no matter what your age. Simply rearrange your sofa pillows and an array of blankets into an indestructible pillow fort, keep your enemies at bay and save the princess from the fearsome dragon!

If you’re not sure how to construct a pillow fort, here’s an easy ‘how to’ video to follow. Forming a pillow fort is a fantastic way to make memories with friends and family during your summer staycation; something everyone can get involved with.

Make things a little more magical by hanging fairy lights throughout your pillow fort, to add a little sparkle. Building a pillow fort is a great way to inspire the imaginations of your little ones, or if so inclined, somewhere to drink a glass of wine or two with friends. How about making your pillow fort extra cosy? Our scatter cushions are the perfect addition to any pillow fort, making the charming space even more snuggly and comforting.

An Afternoon Tea at Home

You can’t go wrong with an afternoon tea. Lashings of delicious clotted cream, scrummy jam, homemade scones and endless amounts of tea – what more could you want?

Creating your own afternoon tea at home is a wonderful way to spend a day; why not make as much as you can from scratch? This is a great way to get the kids in the kitchen, that results in yummy treats for everyone! Your bounty can then be thoroughly enjoyed whilst sat on your sofa.

We think this could potentially be the best staycation activity. We’ve even tried and tested this amazing scones recipe. If you’re looking to make your afternoon tea extra special, why not have a bottle of bubbles instead of tea? Our Hatton footstool is the perfect spot to place all contents of your afternoon tea. Just place a large tea tray on top of the footstool and gather everything you need for the perfect traditional afternoon snack.

Have a Relaxing At-Home Spa Day

A really good way to relax and unwind, an at-home pampering is an ideal Staycation activity this summer. Gather your favourite essential oils, moisturising creams and face masks and give yourself a top-to-toe treatment.

To really set the scene, why not play some relaxing spa music and use an aromatherapy diffuser. Our favourite is the Electric Diffuser Set from Marks and Spencer; the Calm Apothecary Aroma Oil will fully immerse you into your at-home spa day experience.

An at-home spa day is a great way to have time to yourself, but also a great chance to spend some wholesome time with friends and family. Oliver Bonas does a wonderful at-home spa kit, that can be sent straight to your door. With soothing scents of rose and sweet orange blossom, this DIY kit includes a delicate hand cream, bath salts and a rose quartz face roller to help you properly de-stress and lounge in luxury.

Devise a Treasure Hunt

A treasure hunt is a great task for the whole family to get involved in during a summer Staycation. It can easily be organised if you’re heading away to a holiday home too.

Simply hide sweat treats or encouraging rewards around the house and make note of where you’ve hidden them, so you don’t forget! Create a treasure map of various locations and clues, giving hints and tips as to where the treasure has been stashed. This activity can even extend into the garden, making it extra exciting. Just don’t forget your factor 50 sun cream!

Looking for some nifty hiding spots? Our Spencer storage footstool will make excellent hiding places for whatever goodies you’re hiding away.

 Create Your Own Garden Festival

With the arrival of summer, comes the start of festival season. Often costly and dotted all over the country, festivals aren’t necessarily the most accessible things. With this in mind, it is easy enough to create your own festival at home!

Why not invite over a bunch of family and friends, making a true event of it. Create a playlist with your favourite tunes, share it with those joining and you’ll have an amazing selection of music that’ll last for hours! If you have enough room, people could even camp out in your garden and queue for coffee in the morning, to create an authentic festival experience.

Decorate your home and garden with colourful bunting, plenty of lanterns and put up a gazebo, to act as the Main Stage of your spectacular summer staycation event. Don some stick-on face sequins and you’ll truly feel the part, making memories that’ll be spoken about for years to come. Our scatter cushions will also make your festival seating extra comfy!
