G Plan Christmas Picks
Our favourite thing about Christmas is that is brings everybody together. It’s the most wonderful time of the year, as Andy Williams once said. Whether you’ll be spending a magical few days with family and friends or stealing just a few special hours, read on for our ‘Christmas Picks’ for a fun and festive holiday at home.
Family Film – It’s a Wonderful Life, 6pm on BBC2
If you’re opting for a night in on Christmas Eve in preparation for the big day, you’re in for a real treat. Gather the family in your front room, light the fire and open up a tin of your favourite Christmas chocolates as you settle down to watch ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’. This iconic 1940’s film stars James Stewart and follows the story of his character George Bailey on a journey of discovery which leads him to realize how many lives he has changed and impacted, and how they would be different if he was never there. It’s real winter warmer for the whole family to enjoy.
Festive Feast – Supper from M&S
Serve up an M&S late supper – choose from a selection of canapés and finger foods if you’re after a feast you can enjoy off of your laps, or go all out with a pre-made Gastro Beef Bourguignon at the dinner table. Share stories of the past year and plans for the future year. Pull crackers, don the paper hats and laugh at the not-so-funny cracker jokes!
A Festive Scent – Jo Malone
Before your Christmas clan head up to bed, (not forgetting to leave the all-important sherry and mince pie for Santa), spritz the lounge with a festive room spray. One of our favourites for the season is Jo Malone Pine & Eucalyptus, a scent which will keep the room fresh and add to the Christmas atmosphere the following morning.
Christmas Melodies – Kylie Christmas
The backing track to your day should be something festive. We recommend the album ‘Kylie Christmas’ recently released by Kylie Minogue featuring duets with Iggy Pop and James Corden. As you prepare the Christmas lunch, sip on a glass of Champagne, hum along to the Christmas melodies and always accept help when offered.
Family Film – Brave, 3.10pm on BBC1
After the feast and The Queen’s Speech, head to the sofa (great if it’s a reclining one) and settle down for the Disney premier of Brave. It’s a tale of an unruly but courageous Princess who wants to carve out her own path in life.
After Dinner Tipple – Mr Black
Is it time for Trivial Pursuit yet? Before anyone falls asleep, start the board games. For an after dinner tipple to enjoy whilst you play, try the new coffee liquor everybody’s talking about ‘Mr Black.’
Christmas Specials –Doctor Who, Call The Midwife and Downton Abbey
It simply wouldn’t be Christmas if you didn’t spend the evening cosily bundled up on the sofa with the family and a full belly. Luckily there’s a great selection of Christmas Day specials to entertain you until bedtime. We’ll be opting for Doctor Who at 5.15 on BBC1, followed by Call the Midwife at 7.30 and then squeezing in Downton Abbey at 8.45 on ITV.
Festive Feast – A Christmas Hamper
The feasting needn’t stop just yet. We’d recommend a luxury hamper to accompany your leftovers on Boxing Day. We particularly like the look of The Fortmason Hamper by Fortnum and Mason, The Wensley Hamper from Wensleydale Creamery (full of delicious cheeses) and The Christmas Gift Box from Bettys.
Quiet Time – Big Biographies and Autobiographies
Settle down with a good book after all the frivolities. If you haven’t been lucky and found a new title tucked inside your stocking on Christmas morning, you could always download one on to your Kindle. Look out for the big biographies and autobiographies this year including titles from Tom Jones, Chris Evans, Sue Perkins, Guy Martin and Steve Coogan.
Family Film – Peter and Wendy, 8pm on ITV
This brand new adaptation of Peter Pan is set in modern day London and is not to be missed! Look out for Paloma Faith starring as Tinker Bell and Stanley Tucci as Captain Hook. A magical film, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled during the break for the first showing of our G Plan TV ad!
We hope there’s something in our Christmas Picks list that takes your fancy, but however you do Christmas in your household, we hope it’s a very merry one!
