70s Revival

Put in your rollers, get out the flares and embrace the revival of 70s style for 2024. Vintage G Plan is hot property on the second-hand market, with good condition pieces going for hundreds of pounds. If you love this step back in time but also enjoy the luxuries of modern technology and comfort, keep reading, as we have matched three suites from our 1976 catalogue with current models available to buy today.

Rich and Velvety

Starting with the cover of the G Plan 1976 catalogue, we are met with a beautifully silky Melissa suite in a deep, warm brown velvet, perfectly complementing the full wall Fresco display unit in the background. The structured, yet plump cushions, line detailing on the back and scroll arm rests remind us of Holmes.

Holmes also sports tall, uniform back rests with similar detailing and scroll arms (although facing the opposite direction). You can enjoy this classically retro design with the luxury of Power Recliners, fresh, comfy interiors and a variety of size options. Holmes is not only available as standard Sofas and Armchairs, but we also offer it as an Elevate Chair for those who need an extra boost and in smaller sizes to fit into the cosiest snug. To get the full 70s revival effect, opt for a Plush Umber cover, an equally velvety and rich warm-toned orangy/brown.

Warm toned comfort

Velour, ruching and glamorously neutral, Tosca had it all! The perfect staple piece to style around, Tosca’s chrome wheels add extra subtle pazazz to an already stylish unit. Styled here with the G Plan Quadrille Nest of Tables and a large hide rug, this Tosca design is undeniably 70s. This was a tricky model to liken to our current range, its ruched texture is truly unique and sets this piece apart. Our closest match for Tosca in our current collection is the Malvern Sofa, featuring triple sectioned Back Cushions and minimal feet.

Malvern’s design may not include ruching, but its rounded form and plump cushions is a definite nod to the 70s era. Tosca’s warm-toned grey velour was also tricky to match, Plush Slate brings in the velvet-like finish but leans more towards a cool-toned neutral rather than warm. Much like most current G Plan models, Malvern has the option for manual or power recliners, as well as the ability to switch from three Back Cushions to two if you so please.

Modular Sofas of your dreams

Quinta was the epitome of chic, compact living room suites in 1976. Its low back rests and structural shape was the perfect predecessor to Morley fittingly part of our Vintage collection. Although available in a plethora of fabric options, we chose Linn Amber as a close match to the sunflower-yellow floral pattern of Quinta.

On first look, you might mistake one for the other, however on a closer look, the differences are hard to ignore. Not only does Morley sport a seamless continuation of fabric on each seat as opposed to Quinta’s two-piece setup, but it is also available with a power footrest option for easy lounging.

Morley is a modular Sofa, making it easy to fit into your home and lifestyle. Build your perfect Sofa or opt for a pre-designed layout. Included in its module options is a storage armrest unit, removing the need for a side table on one end.

Which of these three Sofas is your favourite? Do you love the revival of 70s style as much as us and fancy recreating the whole vibe?
