How to Style Your Grey G Plan Sofa

You can’t go wrong with a grey sofa or living room. Grey is one of the most versatile colours, so there is no surprise that it’s a very popular choice when it comes to decorating your home. It’s a colour that works with almost everything and its elegant, timeless nature means you can be sure that it won’t be going out of fashion anytime soon. This neutral hue also gives you the flexibility to switch up your interior style whenever you fancy a change.

The beauty of grey is that it works with any décor theme and goes with lots of different colours. From a bold, maximalist theme to a scandi, minimalistic theme and everything in between. However, you still may find yourself asking, what colours work best with grey? Or how do I style my grey sofa?

As your sofa is the focal point of any living space, it’s important to get it right. So, for some inspiration, we touch on the colours that pair beautifully with grey and how you can accessorise.

What colours go well with a grey sofa?

With grey being a neutral colour, it works with bright colours, just as much as it works with lighter, more neutral, or earthy tones.

With so many different shades of Grey to choose from, start by thinking about the room size and the shape/size of your sofa. For big rooms or homes with high ceilings, dark grey sofas work well. However, if you have a small room, lighter grey sofas will help to keep the room feeling spacious.

Lighter grey sofas also work well in open-plan spaces as they can cover a large floor space (meaning you’ll have more room to stretch out in front of the TV), without it darkening the room.

Colour to complement light grey sofas

For light grey sofas this acts as a neutral base for you to be more creative and go bolder with your accessories to bring your living space to life. To add contrast, use burnt orange, deep blue’s/navy and mustard tones for your cushions and throws.

Or, if you are looking for a more neutral living space, consider plush pinks, taupe, turquoise and pastel greens to not just add a splash of colour, but to add warmth and tranquillity.

Light grey sofas also pair beautifully with a contrasting, velvet-style armchair, snuggler or even footstool.

Colour to complement dark grey sofas

For dark grey sofas, opt for lighter accessories to create a balance, such as lighter greys, taupe, plush pinks, or earthy tones such as light browns and beiges.

Tip: Just because grey goes with a lot of colours, be mindful not to mix too many when accessorising as they may clash.

How to accessorise a grey living room?

No matter which shade of grey you opt for, the texture is also important. To soften a grey living space, all shades of grey pair effortlessly with natural, warm wood finishes, wicker, rattan, linen cushions/throws and woven rugs for that organic, homely feel.

To add a bit of character to your sofa, consider adding patterned scatter cushions, from quirky geometric styles to simple scandi-styles. Or if you’d prefer, complement your sofa with a patterned rug, throws, curtains, or vases.
